Handmade Tidal Long case clock by the late Mr Bertie Parker.

The clock case was handmade by A Reim and Son of Pietermaritzburg of Stinkwood with Ebony pillars and brass decorations and stands 213cm tall. The pendulum is visible through an Ebony aperture in the door. The Stinkwood was matured for 60 years prior to the manufacturing of the clock.

The Brass movement was handmade by the late Mr Parker of Cape Town in 1975. Mr Parker was certified as a clock maker by the Watchmakers of Switzerland Technical Centre in 1977. The mechanism features many complications: Seconds, Day, date, Day/Night, Tides and Moon dial. The movement strikes a bell at the hour. The pendulum is a beautiful Mahogany round stick with a cylindrical brass weight. Mr Parker designed and made this movement after reading about the idea Ferguson had for such a clock in 1762. Whether Ferguson, a mathematician, ever made a tidal clock movement is unknown. Mr Parker's tidal clock is the only one of its kind. Aside from the various dials indicating the complications the tide also ebbs and flows in the Arch as the Dromedaris rises and falls.

The dial features Gold Leaf and engraving on the many silvered complication and chapter rings. Stewart of Cape Town hand painted various detailed depictions on the dial. Please see the pictures where we attached the description of the Norse gods represented on the Day calendar.

This clock is highly collectable.
