Clocks

Holtzhausen has been manufacturing African Rare Hardwood Grandfather, Wall and Mantelpiece clocks since 1974, making us the oldest clock manufacturer in Africa. We are a well-established family business deeply rooted in African soil. We craft our cabinets from a wide variety of solid Rare African hardwoods to the highest international standards. Glancing through our website you will see the exotic beauty of timbers such as African Padauk, Tambotie, Candlewood, Panga Panga and Stinkwood. This is our unique contribution to the world of clocks.

We fit each cabinet with a German Kieninger or Hermle mechanical movement. Uniting the best of two worlds this way, each limited edition clock is an heirloom of unmatched quality. Holtzhausen also serves as authorized sole distributor for Kieninger (the world's oldest clock maker) and Howard Miller (world's largest clock maker) in South Africa. We also distribute the full range of Hermle clocks and a selection of Hubert Herr Black Forest cuckoo clocks.

Holtzhausen also sources and restores premium Antique clocks for our customers.

We deliver clocks to your door all over the world. Please do contact us to determine whether we have stock at a retailer close to your home.

So whether it is an Antique clock, the feminine lines of German styling, an eclectic collection of enthusiastic American designs or an exquisitely unique South African range you are after - Holtzhausen is the company to consult.

Music Boxes

“Welcome to the treasured and refined world of those who love mechanical music with all their souls. You are about to become part of a historic tradition that has been given a new lease on life and which will influence countless destinies over the next one hundred years.” Kurt Kupper, CEO Reuge

“I have fond memories of the first mechanical marvel I was introduced to as a child, my late mother’s music box. It was a small ring box in the shape of a grand piano. How the turning of interplaying wheels created music mystified me! This same tradition of beauty, romance and mystery inspires us not only to create some of the most sought after clocks in the world, but also to bring mechanical music boxes to our region of the world.” Herman Holtzhausen

Holtzhausen is proud to serve as sole agent of Reuge in South Africa and Namibia.

Musical Watches

In the Boegli family, watchmaking is more than a trade; it is a true passion, shared by several generations. In fact, the start of the family's watchmaking history goes back no less than four generations. At the beginning of the 20th century, Louis Schwab settled in Moutier to establish a watchmaking factory. In 1904, he created the well-known SWIZA brand, and quickly became the leading manufacturer of alarm clocks and traveling clocks.
One of his daughters encouraged her husband, Benjamin Boegli, to set up his own company and to establish himself in Grandval, where he would make watch dials for clocks and watches, particularly for the Swiza brand. His son Jacques succeeded him and developed the business by supplying dials throughout the world.
After a few years, Jacques BOEGLI decided to go back to his roots and to manufacture complete watches. First, he made watches under the brand B-Watch, destined for the tourist market in Switzerland. Then, passionate about the pocket watches, he created the Jacques du Manoir brand and became one of the biggest Swiss manufacturers of pocket watches, with more than 300 different models. Very quickly, he encouraged two of his six children to be interested in watchmaking.
Within a few years, the development of the two brands took off to such a degree that it became necessary to separate the manufacture of the dials and that of the watches. His son Michel pursued the manufacture of dials, and Jacques BOEGLI settled with his son Francois in new premises in Moutier. Passionate about watchmaking and aware of the fact that the company had returned to Moutier, exactly where a century earlier his great-grandfather had produced his first watches.

Holtzhausen is proud to offer Boegli Grand Orchestre and Grand Festival musical wrist watches and musical pocket watches.
