Smoult and Gilbertson Newcastle Long case Antique Clock.
c. 1745-47.
A solid mahogany cased longcase clock with break arch top hood and a boxwood line inlay door. The case has an arch door with crossbanding and a base with inlaid quadrants and outstplayed bracket feet. The possibly associated brass dial and movement has a signature plaque within the arch, lion and unicorn spandrels a subsidiary seconds hand and a date window. The 8 day movement strikes the hour on a bell. The clock is signed "Smoult and Gilbertson Newcastle". They are listed as a partnership in the mid C18th Century.
