Antique Clocks

Antique Clocks for sale

  • This category holds Antique clocks for sale in South Africa - Johannesburg.
  • We specialise in Longcase or Grandfather clocks.
  • An Antique clock is at least a hundred years old.
  • A clock's age can be determined with reasonable accuracy when one knows what to look for.
  • A good starting point is to establish whether a clock maker is listed in Brian Loomes' book "Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World." This will give one an idea of the maker's date of birth and death and location.
  •  Value is another issue: Timber, movement complexity, rarity, known maker and provenance, restoration and condition - all of these factors play a role in establishing the value of a clock.
